About Death Slam Events
Learn about our mission, our journey, and the passionate team of volunteers who make competitive Deadlock accessible to everyone.
How It Started
Death Slam Events was originally born out of a lunch conversation at Poulet Rouge in Downtown Montréal between REF and Deathy in the middle of the brutal winter. Initially, it was only supposed to be a league - but we quickly figured out making teams out of strangers and asking them to commit for months would not work out.
After weeks of discussing ideas, Deathy told REF the following: “Fuck it, let's just do a tournament and see what happens.”
Over the months, our mission has evolved and so has our community. We now have a full staff of volunteers - ranging from Admins all the way to production staff.
Our Mission
We will empower everyday gamers with a structured, team-based competitive experience designed for those who love gaming but are not chasing the pro or elite grind. Our ecosystem will provide the excitement of organized play within a casual and inclusive environment, unlocking deeper engagement, stronger communities, and more meaningful matches.
We aim to eliminate complex setups, making it easy for first-time competitors to participate while still offering the structure and depth to challenge experienced players. We aim to integrate high level coaches into this ecosystem (such as Deathy) to provide guidance to the participating teams through coaching sessions - with usually the first one free, and further sessions available through payment based on the coach's pricing.
This will be a space where teamwork and friendships matter as much as the game itself, and where anyone can thrive without the pressure of elite-level play.
Signed,
Deathy, REF, pootis and the entire Death Slam Events staff

Deathy
Death Slam Events cofounder
I've been involved in eSports one way or another for over 10 years. I started my competitive gaming in TF2, most known for my ESEA-Invite participation in the team "Running with Scizors", I then moved to Overwatch where I was top 100 from Seasons 2 through Season 5. Then I quit competitive gaming to focus on my studies as an English Major - but I still wanted to keep learning and improving. I picked up DotA 2 where I peaked at 6.5k MMR, which gave me the perfect mixture of FPS & MOBA knowledge to excel at Deadlock. My mission in Deadlock is to make competitive gaming more accessible to everyone, and to help educate the community about the game - all while staying positive and transparent to the community that allowed me to follow my passion.
REF
Death Slam Events cofounder
Hey guys! REF here, I've been building communities for over 25 years. I grew a subreddit from ~3K to over 150K subs, founded one of the first ever collegiate SC2 teams and yes, I'm the commish of my fantasy football league. I've been playing FPS competitively since the early 2000s with a UT99 mod called Tactical Ops, where at one jucture, we were ranked the #1 team in NA. Professionally working in finance and huge stat lover. Happily married with two kiddos + doggie. Main Heros: Shiv, Warden, Bebop

Death Slam Events cofounder
Hi, my name is Daniel! I've been on TF2 Boomers doing software / data stuff since January. I started doing web stuff and programming when I was a kid (originally making pokemon websites). I worked at reddit back when it was very small (~70 people, I was third infrastructure engineer, ended up managing the team that built on their ML systems and did things like the front page of the site and recommendations) and then worked at Google after that on capacity planning and then TensorFlow. Been addicted to deadlock since I found it and haven't been able to stop!
Administration
zephyr
Death Slam Admin
Hey there, zephyr here! I've been involved with competitive, organized gaming for about 16 years now. Experience ranging from TF2, dota2 and overwatch predominantly. I've been out of the scene for a number of years now but discovering deadlock has reignited that interest and excitement for me. As for my role here, I will be helping REF with his workload in administration for DSL and DDS. I am a buddy of deathy and am really confident in him and the team here to do really awesome things. Feel free to @ me or dm me with any questions, I'll do my best to help out as I learn the processes.

Death Slam Admin
Hey everyone! My name is Mason and I'm a recent college graduate from the University of Michigan. I participated in my university's collegiate esports program as a player, captain, coach, manager, and director for the Michigan Valorant teams. During my time with Michigan I got involved with organizing some very notable collegiate leagues and found I had both the passion and talent for it. Sometime in August I switched to playing deadlock and found my love for competing again. After taking a few months away from collegiate esports this past Winter to focus on getting my degree, I started looking to get back into esports as a passion project and decided to offer my assistance as an admin to Ref and Deathy for the DDS & DSL. Feel free to reach out to me regarding your administrative needs or to talk deadlock (ascendant viscous, talon, and sinclair bunny puncher).

Death Slam Admin
Hello, my name is Will or Yep, I'm a student studying IT. Deadlock is my first MOBA, but I've played competitive FPS games since I was 11. My first was CSGO, and I played a lot of TF2. I've always enjoyed the competitive scene and thought Death Slam would be a great place to pursue my passion for esports. I'm really into fashion and always interested in talking about clothes. Feel free to ask any questions related to Death Slam or Deadlock.
Production & Broadcasting
Gryphon
Production
Heyo Heyo, I'm Gryphon, a university student and caster for DDS & DSL. Unlike the other fossils here, Deadlock is the first game I've focused on competitively, reaching Eternus 6 in NA and competing in Fall 2024. However, I've always had a passion for casting (and maybe some talent for yapping); I aim to help navigate the chaos of competitive deadlock to keep spectators engaged and just enough flair to make them stay.
Sochen
Production
My name is Yoav, i've been involved in Esports since 2006~. Originally IT cable rat running in large sport hall lan events connecting hundreds of computers to shoddy home networking gear and making some great COD 4, CS, WC3 stuff happen. Fell in love with Esports- founded a production company, later on a Lan cafe with a studio, to founding and managing proper TV channel, and from there to Riot Games working on some of the largest Esports events worldwide as a production manager (Ironically with none of the Riot games being my favorite Esports). These days i'm taking a break going back to grassroots, shaking rust off my vmix skills, and trying to start again with what i'm passionate about. Massive snowboarding nerd, hypercaffeinated at all times to combat adhd, vaguely american sounding due to being born there but grew up in the middle east and based in Germany these days.
